Well I have resisted the urge to comment on the 'new' DA thus far, but I think it is fairly obvious that I have been less than prolific on here in recent times. This has gone hand in hand with getting a couple of my websites sorted out to be fair, but also that DA has annoyed me so much.
This 'new' version appalls me. It doesn't really seem to be about the art anymore, it is all about having a fluffly looking website. Yippee, there are loads of kiddy icons and crap floating about. I don't like it at all. There is less screen real estate, so less room for the art. It is flakey as hell too. I have just upped a pic, only to find out that it doesn't show in my gallery properly (well not to me anyway). Sort it out DA owners, this is a flakey bag o' crap. I feel I can moan as I DO subscribe, also paying for a print account as well (for what it's worth) and I am not happy with what I am getting for my money. I want a site that I can browse and look at, not have to fight my way through tons of pointless fucking features and childlike icons at every fucking turn.
I have just re-checked my latest submission, now I see no thumb and when I click I see no image. Well fucking done DA. Fucking useless. For me, this has been getting steadily worse. I open galleries and have to reload many times to see some pics and even then I see nothing at all. And no, it isn't my browser or cache, I know enough about shit like that, and trust me, that isn't the cause.
I look at images and it says '148' comments, for example. Can I see them? Not always. What's the deal there? FLAKEY FLAKEY FLAKEY. Sure I could browse the site for free, but I chose to pay for the extra features like ad-free browsing, but what's the point if I can't fucking browse what I want to?!
Is DA too big? Possibly. Too full of crap? Without doubt. I won't even go down the route of mentioning the pointless wastes of server space that appear on here daily, as I would be moaning for months.
Why roll something out that hasn't been properly tested? If it *has* been properly tested then the coders need to be made to use this bug-ridden piece o' crap for a day and see their handiwork. If it is server issues, then use some of the money that subscribers pay to improve the service. Or start making it a pay site only, at least then it is less likely to get crammed full of pointlessness, and it might start being about the art again.
Bring back version 4, or whatever hell version it was... the last one, the one that worked slightly better than this one. Grrrrr.
On a side issue, one of my pics came in the Top 50 in a BBC TV comp and I have won a mug for my efforts. I would post the link to the image but it probably won't work
